26th January 2026
Will and Ian were invited by the Army Flying Museum to present the Schneider Trophy Supermarine S5 Project to their audience.
The conference room was filled to capacity (50) with keen aircraft enthusiasts. Ian talked about what the project was seeking to achieve and the brief history of the Schneider contest, its participants and results; Will talked about the original aircraft, our reproduction and the challenges of working in expensive, hard to source, specialist spruce.
There were many follow up questions on the topics of: emergency egress, skills dying out, why a Napier W engine and linking to the National Spitfire Project. We added to our contacts list – with some interesting suggestions – and raised almost £300 to top up the funds.
Thank you to all attendees and a special thanks to the museum staff for their help and support.
